300 word story:

Today was the perfect day to open the shop. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better turn out. Before the doors even opened there was a line around the block waiting to get in. As soon as the doors opened it took less than 10 minutes for us to run out of our stock and we had to bring out the backup stock! The coffee pots were needing constant brewing and we’ve got orders set up for the next 3 months! I’ve met so many amazing browbirds, kitbulls and satyrs today and I can’t help but count my blessings. I’ll need to hire some more people as well. Doing this alone with just my firstmate was horribly exhausting. After I fill a few of these catering orders I should have enough to hire at least a front end employee and an extra baker. All this business is more than I’m use to and more than I can handle alone, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Though, I can’t help but miss the skies.
It’s been almost 6 months since I started this endeavor, and 6 months since I last sailed the starships and settled down in this city. My firstmate and I stuck together after our ship got horribly damaged, and deciding that the pirate life isn’t what we always wanted for ourselves, I’ve always dreamed of being a baker and making food that makes people happy and never worrying about how I’ll get my next meal. The firstmate has had similar dreams about not being an outlaw and making an honest man of himself. I’m lucky to have him with me through this.
It’s not nearly as adventurous of a life, but I get to do what I love. And who knows, maybe I’ll sail again some day once I get enough money to fix my ship. But for now, the shop is my life, and a bright future ahead.
