Colorful, vibrant, and constantly sqirming, tiny o’worms are perfect for catching the eye of all manner of things beneath the waves. They are fairly laid back creatures who are oddly accepting of their fate, some even curling around the hooks of their own accord. This makes them a popular choice of bait among fishermen!

★ Description: 

Skillfully and painstakingly crafted with feathers from rare magical beasts, this lure is exceptional at drawing in creatures distracted by bright colors, rapid movement, and magical enchantment. It fetches a high price in fishing communities, as the feathers needed to make one are often illegally procured from the sizeable black market feather trade. It's probably best not to ask too many questions if you catch a fisher using one.

★ Description: 

Seasoned sailors whisper rumors of Abyssal rifts scattered in dark waters and invisible to the naked eye. These tears in reality can grow large enough for unknowable creatures and ravenous nightmares to slip out into the waters, and the rare sighting of one of these beasts is often cited as the source of old ocean folklore. If someone lives to tell the tale, giving a name to something of the abyss, the unreal is made real, and it becomes unable to return home as it once was. Still, things born from the void are drawn to what they cannot have, so they seek out other abyssal things. Small hemlock spawns are difficult to come by, but still one of the most plentiful Abyss creatures found on the surface, making them useful in tempting the things that dwell in the depths.

They popped up in circles last time. It was like they were warning us of what was to come. There's no way we could have predicted it, but looking back... In the weeks before, I saw circles everywhere. It can't have been a coincidence. After everything went dark, the voidtouched began to multiply in number drastically. We called them all manner of names, but there was one that stuck: halvs. What happened at Candletown left a lasting effect that rippled out to all of us. The sea people were gone; the descendants of Hylos devoted themselves to the studies of the Abyssal Void; and there were quiet, secret whispers that someone was making the dead walk again. If I had known that he would go that far, maybe I could have stopped it. But that's just wishful thinking.

Afterwards, the world became filled with creatures that were not quite right. Things from the dark that had been brought into the light, morphing and changing shape so as to fit in. They seemed mostly harmless, but still worthy of studying, just in case. When the Abyssal Void afflicts one of us, it warps our minds and bodies: browbirds undergo halv corruption, satyrs are forcibly hollowed, and kitbulls become extremely unstable. Beneath the microscope, the plot thickens — I watched the very cells of subjects being torn between multiple realities. But these new specimens adapted perfectly, like nothing I've ever seen before in my life. If only we could harness this technology...

Sometimes, I encountered dalva — or what was left of them. After passing into our realm, they underwent some sort of dimensional compression that reduced them to simpler forms, ones that we could understand. I once had the opportunity to watch it happen: a demon fighting itself, writhing and contorting and gurgling in pain until it transformed into a mad beast of nightmarish proportions. This one was small, but I still dream about it sometimes; the way it resisted the transformation for every single moment, but still lost in the end. More powerful dalva are doubtless harder to dimensionally compress. I hate to think how that would manifest. But halvs experience no such phenomenon and are even indistinguishable from other browbirds unless pushed into their halv state. There's no way of detecting a halv, not for the layman. These new organisms from the void don't appear to have any transformative capabilities, but if it was possible for them to become what they are now, shouldn't it also be possible to reverse that process?

There is a long history of confectionery in Candletown. Candleblight is considered a time of great celebration and special chocolates are made by each boutique chocolatier every year in order to enter the local contest. Some of the most delicious and inventive sweet treats are born from this annual competition.

During celebrations of Candleblight, it’s common for sweet makers to decorate their usual lollipops, chocolates, and other treats in ways that mimic the beasts from old tales of the Blight. Children and adults alike exchange these candies as gifts around this time of year but are sure to eat them quickly, for it’s said that the void loves sweet things…

Coal formed from ancient magical organisms can sometimes display special properties. These coals are said to be the very same that light the everburning fire in a dragon's belly, though it's unclear as to whether or not that is pure mythology. Regardless of origin, it's true that they continue to burn for seemingly eternity as long as there is fuel for their fire.

These have been popping up all over lately... What could they be for?

Condensed lifeforce plucked from a spirit or a dream. Used to ignite life into what lies dormant.

A glittering gilded branch that appears to be made of gold itself, and yet flowers still blossom from it as though it was wood. The flowers only bloom for a brief period during the spring and are extremely coveted as a result. The floral aroma of these uniquely produced blossoms seems to draw in the attention of numerous magical creatures, especially one in particular...
