Nerissa trembles as she looks around from her vantage point on the floating iceberg. It’s winter time and she’s quite lost, having gotten separated from her family via a series of comedic events.
Well, they’d be comedic from someone else’s point of view. From hers, she’s nervous and terrified that she’s been utterly abandoned by everyone she loves and will never be seen or heard from again.
But it’s Frostfall!
…. She can’t muster up any enthusiasm for the holiday, but one thing does occur to her: It would be much more of a cheerful occasion if she had someone to share the day with. She’d be significantly less lonely and afraid if so, so she decides to make a snowman.
The iceberg she’s planted herself on has plenty of snow from the recent snowfall, so she takes the time to roll up a guy about the same size as her, stacking three big snow balls on top of one another. Then she realizes her snowman needs features, which makes her jump and scramble to find something that would suit him.
In her satchel she finds some odds and ends that she supposes could work. She uses a couple of little sea shells for his eyes, and bits of sea glass for his mouth. For a scarf, she wraps a length of seaweed around his neck.
She doesn’t have anything she can use for his arms, though, which gives her pause.
Anxiously, she glances around for something to improvise with.
Eventually, she hazards a dive down to snag a couple of amphibious eels native to the area in the winter. They wiggle in her grip as she pulls them along with her, and wiggle even more when she buries them halfway into the snowman.
The snowman looks rather silly with his arms noodling about, but she only has a moment to uncomfortably consider them before she hears someone calling for her. She turns and scampers away towards the call, leaving the eels to squirm their way to freedom.
